Updates and more!

I'm back in Phoenix once again - finally! It's been a crazy summer, but things are starting to get a little more normal. I do my best to divide my life into three categories: business, professional, and personal - so I think I'll divide this post into those categories as well. I feel like a musicologist right now: they LOVE separating things into categories.

BUSINESS

The ITEC was a huge success for Just For Brass. We had the best display and spread of music at the conference and the overall buzz was out about us. It was definitely worth the trip, and we were able to liquefy some of our stock. Potenza Music is getting off the ground thanks to several young composers who were willing to take a chance on a young publisher. I find that offering a slightly higher pay royalty than my direct competitors makes good business sense at this point in the game. I'd rather sell more copies and make less-per-item than not have the business at all. Potenza Music is getting a NEW website in the coming months. It's been a long time waiting for this, but it's going to be VERY nice when it's done. Now I just have to sell enough sheet music and CD's to pay for it! Hmm...

PROFESSIONAL

The Arizona Academy has been out on tour and going strong so far. While they haven't hit their peak yet, they are improving - watch for them this year in the finals! It was my pleasure to work with both the baritone/euphonium line and the entire drum corp this season - a fine group of young musicians!

I'm going into the second year at ASU teaching and learning. Also - the second year for Sonic Boom, my high school level ensemble, which was a HUGE success last year in the inception year. Salt River Brass is adding concerts this coming season - now we just need to get them to add a paycheck! Just kidding, it's a GREAT band - with MANY awesome opportunities!

This coming year, I plan on 2 recitals at ASU, as well as others in AZ as well as a tour through several Colorado schools. Like usual - check the website for all of that stuff.

PERSONAL

Wedding plans are going strong here in Tempe. We've just picked out our menus for the reception, things are pretty much in place. I enjoyed tasting the menus - it was a high point for the wedding planning. Mary liked picking the flowers - I liked picking the food. Strange how that works, huh?

Well, that's about it for now. I thought that I would leave you with a little political humor - which never hurt anyone, right?
